Kids Love Us, Parents Trust Us
At Bass & Watson Family Dental, we're committed to your child's dental health journey. We recommend scheduling their first dentist visit within six months of their first tooth appearing or by their first birthday. While general dentists can meet most needs, some children may require a specialized pediatric dentist, and our team at Bass and Watson is here to guide you.
How to Prevent Childhood Tooth Decay
Preventing tooth decay is mostly in your hands. Instilling good habits in your children at a young age helps them maintain healthy habits into adulthood. Here are some tips for preventing childhood tooth decay and ensuring your little one has a healthy smile:
- Keep their pacifiers clean, and don't share saliva with your child by licking spoons or pacifiers.
- Wipe their gums after each feeding, and gently brush their emerging teeth.
- Once your child can spit out toothpaste, you can start using a pea-sized amount of children's toothpaste, with parental assistance until they're around age 9.
- Avoid filling their bottles with anything but formula, milk, or breast milk.
- Ensure they finish bottles before bedtime.
- Promote a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and limit sweets.
- Discuss fluoride needs with us, and if you use well water, we can test it for necessary fluoride supplements.
During your child's dental appointment, Dr. Bass or Dr. Watson will assess your child's oral health and provide specific advice and guidance based on their unique needs.
